HOT METAL BRIDGE

 

Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community is a church that was planted in the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, fall of 2004. We use a narrative style of worship that shares the story of God through drama and the arts, as well as traditional forms of worship.

 

Both the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church (USA) support our church. Being connected in this way points to our deeper belief in the unity and priesthood of all believers. When we share in the Lord’s Supper, we invite all who have a heart hungry for the Gifts of God to come to the table and be served. We do not turn anyone away.

Our time of communion continues even after the bread and cup are shared. Every week, following the service, we share in a meal of tacos or soup or bagels…Through this meal, we seek to create authentic, intimate relationships with one another and with God. Communion, community and conversation are all vital elements of who we are as a church. We invite you to come and experience worship with us for yourself. Come with the expectation of learning both the joy and the struggle of being in community.

 

The Table

The Table is a community kitchen with a heart to serve the South Side community. No ID or check-in is required. Just come as you are. We serve a free, hot meal from 5:30 to 6:30pm every Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is welcome. Meals are provided by various volunteer groups and churches from the Pittsburgh area and served at the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community. The Table’s mission is to be a bridge between the kingdom of God and those we serve by creating community, building relationships andloving one another.

 

The Homeless Ministry

For several years the homeless ministry has been heading out to the streets of downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoons to hand out food, clothing, and love. We gather at the church each Saturday at noon to make bag lunches as a group. Then we head to the streets in hope of spreading love. On a normal basis, 20-30 lunches are handed out, differing only slightly by season. We try to display God’s love through listening, caring, forming relationships, making friends, and sharing in life together. Loving one another means sharing in burdens and traveling life together; we have friends downtown who we have been spending time with for years and we meet new brothers and sisters weekly.
